Understanding the New Updates for Dubai Residents Staying Abroad for Over Six Months

Hello, everyone! We’re here to provide some crucial insights on the recently released guidelines by the Identity and Citizenship-United Arab Emirates (ICP). This will particularly be of interest to our Dubai-based clients who have been staying abroad for extended periods.

According to the ICP, Dubai residents with a Golden Visa are exempt from these requirements. For others, however, a permit will be necessary for extended stays abroad over six months, and a valid reason must be provided for this prolonged absence.

Application Process:

The application for the permit can be made through the ICP’s smart services system or the “UAEICP” smartphone application for a fee of AED150. The process is slightly different depending on your type of sponsorship:

  1. Company-sponsored Individuals: If your visa is sponsored by a company, the sponsoring entity should submit the application on your behalf.
  2. Personal Sponsorship: If you have personal sponsorship, the individual sponsor is required to submit the application.

Required Documentation:

To complete the application, you’ll need to provide copies of your Emirates ID, passport, and a valid reason for the extended stay abroad. Remember, these applications must be made from outside the UAE.

Approval and Penalties:

Once approved, a fine of AED100 will be imposed for every 30 days (or part thereof) spent outside the UAE. However, if your application is rejected, these violation fees will be refunded.

One final, crucial point to note is that you must re-enter the UAE within 30 days after your permit application is approved.

We hope this information is helpful and provides some clarity on the new guidelines. If you’re a Dubai resident currently residing abroad or planning an extended trip, make sure you’re in the loop and stay compliant with the regulations.

Remember, regulations can change, so always keep an eye out for updates and consult official government resources for the most accurate and up-to-date information.

Make sure to share this vital update with your friends, colleagues, and fellow travelers. Travel smart, stay compliant!
